Warts

Warts can occur nearly anywhere on the human body but they are benign (non-cancerous) so while they are often unsightly and potentially embarassing, you shouldn’t lose sleep over a wart. You should, however, visit the offices of Dermatologic Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery. We can help rid you of your warts with the most advanced treatments available today.

Pulsed Dye Laser Wart Treatment

There are a number of potential treatments for warts. They include the use of acids, cryogenics, and surgical procedures. However, these treatments can have drawbacks and sometimes warts can return. Pulsed dye laser treatment offers  an excellent solution for problematic warts.

Studies have shown that pulsed dye laser treatment for warts is successful in curing 99% of warts on the body and limbs while warts on hands and feet are cured over 80% of the time with one treatment. Furthermore, side effects are infrequent and mild when they do occur.

How Pulsed Dye Laser Wart Treatment Works

The laser mechanism is placed against the skin and the laser pulses its light into the wart. The laser targets the hemoglobin, which carries oxygen in the blood. The blood vessels inside of the wart are essentially cauterized, which cuts off the blood supply to the wart. Soon afterward, the tissue of the wart dies and the wart will fall off. There is no incision and no open wound when the wart falls off.

Minor Pain Associated With Pulsed Dye Laser Treatment

Most patients report minor discomfort during the procedure itself. As the laser pulses, some patients feel a slight sting, but it is generally not strong enough to require local anaesthetic. If the wart is in a particularly sensitive area or if you have concerns about pain, you should bring up this topic during your initial consulatation with one of our doctors, They will help you decide how to manage your pain.

After the treatment, only a few patients experience any discomfort that requires pain medication and in those cases and over the counter pain reliever will generally do the trick. The treated skin may appear discolored for a few days or up to two weeks, but the normal skin color will return with time. There is almost no reason for patients to wait to return to normal activities after Pulsed Dye Laser Wart treatments, unless the wart was in a particularly sensitive area.
