CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast
These facial fillers are non-synthetic, non-bovine derived dermal cells harvested from human tissue donations. They are created through a process strictly controlled by the FDA, as are all transplant materials. These collagen fillers can be used to enhance lips, treat acne scars, and lessen the appearance of wrinkles.
How are CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast different from other collagen fillers?
CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast are the only FDA-approved, commercially available fillers that are derived from only natural human collagen. When collagen fillers first became available, they were created from bovine and sometimes porcine (cow and pig) collagen. Some fillers available today are still created from bovine and porcine sources. While these sources can produce very effective collagen fillers, because they are not human-derived, they require that patients take an allergy test before treatment. Occasionally, doctors discover that a patient is allergic to a bovine or porcine-derived filler, in which case those fillers cannot be injected into the patient. CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast provide an alternative to these fillers.
Because CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast are human-derived, they are also acceptable for patients whose religious and cultural practices forbid the use of bovine or porcine materials.
How long do CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast fillers last?
CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast fillers will last between one and three months for most patients. Eventually, your body will absorb the inserted collagen and your wrinkles will return.
Are CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast different?
CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast are slightly different, although they are both created by the same human-based source. CosmoDerm is used for fine lines like those around the lips or eyes (“crows’ feet). CosmoPlast is used for deeper wrinkles, brow furrows, and lip augmentation.
